The Best & The Worst Of 2020

Year 2020! I don't know. It just makes me wanna shout out loud at all the absurdity and damage done by crazy, power hungry, heartless lunatics, and those selfish like me who have been turning a blind eye to them, intentionally or not! We reap what we sow! I blame no one but myself for what I've had to face and deal with, this madness and insanity introduced by a regime so ruthless and evil; this highly contagious virus from a country where freedom and the rule of law are unheard of among its people; and all these crackdowns and lockdowns as a result. We've been feeding a monster just to satisfy the monster inside of us! And look, what a monstrous world it has been!

Only days to go before 2020 a very ominous and frustrating year comes to an end. But who knows how long before a real safe vaccine for the China virus finally arrives? How long before we get to take off goddamn masks? To see and hug our long-time-no-see friends and lovers? To dine out, to go to gigs or cinemas for our favorite shows, to travel, to do whatever crazy stuff we used to like doing without fear of catching a fatal virus? How long must we suffer before everything gets back to normal? It probably never will, cos it seems to me that we're not learning anything yet from our mistakes at all. To get more money to burn, we're still pleased to keep feeding up the monster. Most of us are still loath to wake up and realize that there's this thing indeed way more dangerous and deadly than any viruses ever occurred, Communism, Socialism, Dictatorship or Tyranny, just the same shit by different names! With such going on, I don't expect there'll be a better tomorrow, or a better year ahead of us!

I said to my mom, I think I've never been through a worse year than this so far in my life. And she said, cos you haven't been through the worst yet! Right, maybe the worst is yet to come! Maybe y'know there's no such a thing as 'the worst', but only the worse than the worst! So maybe 2020 is not so bad after all, compared with what will probably happen in the coming future that may mark the end of us. I don't know. But I've been quite fed up with the hypocrisy of men! How they believe they're supposed to run the world and how they're actually running it, really make me sick and speechless!

Most politicians don't do what they say yet what they do affects thousands of millions of us ordinary people. Real leaders or saints who are righteous and selfless are few. Most are merely trained politicians who are shady and cold-blooded. The only thing they care is how they can be in power for ever! How you and the world are fucked is none of their business! Yet most of our lives are in their hands. I don't consider myself a pessimist but when it comes to humanity... I don't know. I'll be trying to stay away as far as I can just in case I become one of them!

My apologies for talking so much bullshit before getting to films that still seemed to be the first choice of relatively cheap and convenient entertainment during the lockdown and self-isolation. Films however, are more than just entertainment. They pull you through a difficult time. They make you see when you're blind. They remind or foretell. They work as an alarm or a revelation. They teach, in short. Life itself is like a movie, moving pictures in other words. And we're the performers to act in a series of events putting up with different emotions, but we've been too deep in it for so long to realize that it's just a movie in which nothing stays! Things go on and on like in a circle. Our roles to play and scenes to experience may differ but it's the same goddamn circle! We never see this life as a movie and ourselves the audience. That's why we're meant to be blind and unwise and cruel to ourselves and others!

 The (almost) Best:

This is not my 'the Best of the Year' (there's none in fact), but something close, and a must-see if you're still busy making your own plans without being able to realize the fact that you manage to stay alive and kicking not because you're capable of doing so like you want to, but simply because Planet Earth allows you to! If it's doomed, so are you for sure! Sir David Attenborough's love for the planet is undoubted and deep but I wonder how many of us have been woken by his lifelong passion and dedication to mother nature, and how many of us are willing to stay awake and keep doing what he's told us to do to hopefully stop the planet and all the living on it from going to hell in the coming future! 'A Life On Our Planet' is beautiful and breathtaking yet sorrowfully heartbreaking if considered an alarm of our extinction rather than another wildlife travelogue! Well, guess there's nothing sad about us human going extinct though, if we're bound to. Earth could be far better off without us. Who knows? The reason why we've come to this obviously, is that we always feel like we're somehow more important, if not the most, than any other species here on Earth. But you know we're NOT at all. We just happened to be here as tiny (we think we're big) part of nature itself. And like it or not, we must go when our time here is up!

 The Worst:

Instead of something that you'd take to heart, zombie films are mostly considered a joke or a piece of B-rated entertainment that you may not even want to waste your time on. 'Train to Busan' is nevertheless, an exception! The 2016's zombie sensation bears a lot of men's emotions and struggles to either stay alive to be shamed and loathed or stay human to be adored and remembered! It's about love and sacrifices for a greater course that defines humanity. It's a claustrophobic tearjerker featuring zombies that appears only every once in a blue moon! But the so called sequel 'Peninsula' is everything opposite to its predecessor! It's like nothing but a video game, carefree and preposterous! Even the broadly criticized 'TLOS Part 2' is far more thrilling than this, period!

A song to wrap it up. There's nothing better I guess, than closing your eyes, shaking your head and dancing to New Order at a time like this. Here's one of my favorites. It gets me high as well as makes me sad! Probably the lyrics (My life ain't so holidays. I've been through a point of no return. I've seen what a man can do. I've seen all the hate of a woman too)! Then I'm not gonna wish you Merry Christmas or Happy New Year, cos I wonder how many of you are indeed happy right now. And will things get better next year? I deeply doubt it!
