Midsommar (2019) - Forking Cult Leaders!
★★☆☆☆
You may not know who the hell Ari Aster is, but, if you're a fan of
horror films, you must've watched the director's highly praised debut
'Hereditary', which I think is certainly overrated. Aside from the fact that
I'm sort of immune to horror films featuring ghosts or supernatural power or
stuff, I simply don't buy the story about executing rituals and sacrifices to
worship demons. Also, I don't like the acting either which appears to be rather
exaggerated and stupid! This time, we're taken to Sweden to take part in,
again, some cult rituals and sacrifices to celebrate what they call the circle
of life, which, like expected, goes horribly disturbing and nonsensical in the
end to some rational minds.
If you're like me considering 'Hereditary' a lot of a fuss, you may
not like 'Midsommar' either. Still, it may upset you to some extent by making
you realize how horrifying and pathetic it is to be constantly brainwashed to
be acting like a maniac without knowing it at all! A cult, according to the
dictionary, is a religious group sharing beliefs considered extreme or strange
by many. But I guess any means of brainwashing will end up generating a cult so
it's not necessarily religious. It can be political as well, as you should've
learned that the Hong Kong police are now considering whoever is against them cockroaches
that have to be eliminated right away! They've become maniacs like a cult, inevitably
forcing many others, including those against them, to be maniacs like them too.
Truth is, not only are they burning themselves, they're also burning with us.
And thanks to those forking cult leaders, Hong Kong is going straight to hell
faster than anyone could imagine!
