Nobody (2021) - No One Is!

★★☆☆☆

The film opens with a middle-aged man, bruised and battered but seemingly not defeated, sitting in an interrogation room, getting ready to tell how he ends up like that. Then we're flashed back to his daily grind that's more or less like yours and mine! No sooner had we been briefed about this aloof, depressed family man's everyday routine than the burglars broke in that starts to give 'Nobody' the momentum to go where it's supposed to go. As a whole it's nothing serious or hard to take though. It's solely for fun and time killing. It might be able to help release your stress and anger but that's a bonus y'know not necessarily working for everyone.

'Nobody' looks inevitably John Wick-ish since it's got the same crew behind 'John Wick' to make it happen. Hutch in 'Nobody' and John in 'John Wick' are both trying to forget they are somebody and to live like a nobody but their 'somebody nature' can never seem to go away. It's only waiting for a trigger to go off, which is a dog for John and a bracelet for Hutch. The difference is, 'Nobody' appears to be more down-to-earth and brutal when it comes to combats and thus, not as fancy and slick! But still a little pinch of exaggeration and heroism is needed for films like 'Nobody' to better serve as a piece of action entertainment. It's fast paced, humorous at times and most importantly, short. The catch is, I know no one in 'Nobody', and I remain a fan of Keanu Reeves.

'Nobody' is nothing deep! It's pure entertainment to kill time. It may get you high seeing Hutch punch and kick and kill those badass that deserve to be punched and kicked and killed, but, again, not necessarily. And just in case you forget, no one is really nobody. Anyone can be somebody to someone in the right place at the right time. This is an impermanent world of dependent arising. You're always influencing the course of something no matter how little you do. Like Dalai Lama reminds us, if you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.
