Inglorious Bastards - Gonna Blow Your Nazi Balls Away!

 (2009) ★★★★

I never knew there were such bastards to drop behind the Nazi lines and scalp the Nazis after killing them like animals. I never knew the Nazi Germans cared so much about movies and there was such a thing as Operation Kino against Gestapo and Hitler. So I never knew Hitler was killed like that in a cinema owned by a Jewish girl named Shosanna. But I knew I was just joking.

There're five chapters, two storylines. One's about how the 'bastards', a batch of Jewish-Americans led by Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brat Pitt), get behind the enemy lines and carry out their hideous mission. The other is about how Shosanna, whose family are all killed by 'The Jew Hunter' (Christoph Waltz) in a cottage in German-occupied France, comes up with a plan to set the Nazi elites all on fire. So it's basically a film about revenges. You wouldn't expect a real war film from Tarantino, would you?

Okay, let's get something straight before we continue. I've never been a fan of Quentin Tarantino. I don't really like films packed with bloodbaths. I don't think violence will get us anywhere or do us any good. But as a motion picture, or a cinematic piece of art, Bastards is so damn good. Before every quick shootout (yeah, it doesn't last long, so you'll be let down if you look for bloody violence in it.), there must be a huge amount of adrenaline-boosting dialogues between two sides, which are to me the most charming part of the film. The story itself is not so special to be honest, but a great screenplay and outstanding acting, Christoph Waltz (pictured below) in particular, who I guess will have no problem at all with winning the 2010 Golden Globe Award and even the Academy for the Best Supporting Actor, simply make this movie shine brilliantly.

Some said Tarantino is a genius. I start to think so. He can make the serious not so serious, the funny not so funny, the violent not so violent, that you're able to see the beauty of a so-called violent film. 'I think it just might be my masterpiece'. I guess it is, Quentin.
