Matchstick Men - Not Good Nor Bad.

 (2003) ★★★☆☆

A matchstick man is someone who can sell cheap things even like matchsticks for a good price, meaning he's a con. Right, it's a film about how to con and be conned. And I kinda like it, not because of the so-called surprising ending (it didn't surprise me anyway) but because of Nicolas Cage. I don't know since when he became one of the action heroes, but he should've really given himself more chance of showing his talents in acting like he does in Matchstick Men.

Most of the people have probably forgotten that Cage won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his soul-striking performances in Leaving Las Vegas. He's indeed a great actor, but for some reasons, he took a different path since then. He's been in too many commercial films that sorta deprived him of acting seriously or stylishly enough to win another award or something. But in Matchstick Men, his character as an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) patient is so fascinating, charming and convincing that without him, I guess there'd be nothing worth seeing.

Plus, it reminds me of how important it is to forget and forgive. If you learn to let go and empty yourself, you'll see there's no such a thing as no way out for sure.
