Mother - It's All Emotional.

 (2009) ★★★☆☆

I seldom watch Korean films. I've only watched two so far. Last time, it was 'The Classic', a love story with a beauty queen, So Ye-jin, in it. It almost made me cry. This time, Mother, well, it made me wanna cry too, but for the most of time, it made me chill and wanna throw up!

A single mother, Hye-ja, (Kim Hye-ja) lives in a village with her only son, Do-joon, (Won Bin), who seems a bit mentally retarded, timid and quiet. One day, a girl is found murdered on a roof, and the police find at the scene a golf ball with Do-joon's name on it. Do-joon actually writes his name down on the ball after being detained by the police for a fight he gets into with his friend, Jin-tae (Jin-gu). And there're eyewitnesses saying Do-joon follows the girl the night before, but he denies it. His mother doesn't believe that his son who doesn't dare kill a cockroach could murder a girl like that. She decides to find the truth and prove his son innocent. So the guess is, what's she gonna find out? Who could've done it? Do-joon himself? His friend, Jin-tae? Or his mother? Or someone else? That's what the viewers may be wondering while watching this kind of story. What seems to excite us, however, is not who the murderer is, but the investigation itself. To enjoy this film, please keep that in mind.

'Mother' once again made me realize how powerful and destructive emotions can be to a person who cannot get to control them well. Emotions can push a man to do what he can't image. So if you let your emotions take control of you, you'll be either great or rather pathetic.

Do-joon's mother knows a secret about acupuncture. There's a point somewhere on the thigh she can insert the needle into, to help patients get rid of sad memories or nightmares, at least for a while. She helps her son once, and she'll have to help herself too.
