The Stool Pigeon - A Sad Plain Story.
(2010) ★★★☆☆ |
A classic is something you never forget; something that stays with you and grows on you after many, many years. A so-so is a movie you watch, and kind of like it, but you're sure you won't want to watch it again. 'The Stool Pigeon' is far from a classic, but not quite a so-so.
It's a film about betrayals and struggles between what things are and what you think they should be. The cinematography, editing, and chases are great. The score is much more outstanding than the story itself which is too simple and not at all suspenseful. And if you're a fan of Nick Cheung, go for it. His great performance almost made me cry in the middle. He would be the next Tony Leung I guess. As for Nicholas Tse, without much to say this time, he puts on a better show than he does in 'The Beast Stalker' by using more body language and facial expressions. 'The Stool Pigeon' is a nice Cantonese film to check out for certain, but it could've been better to be remembered.
