Gallants - It Ain't About How Hard You Can Hit...

(2010) ★★★☆☆

Two good things about this Cantonese movie: first, the action scenes, which are pretty powerful and down-to-earth, nothing fancy and exaggerated compared with 'Yip Man'. I guess the young generation would not be impressed, coz their senses have been dulled by exposing themselves regularly to extreme violence. They prefer fancy stuff to things that are practical and valuable. And I'm one of them. That's why I'm scared in a sense.

Second, the spirit: no fights, no losses. To fight is to win. But hey don't misunderstand it. Winning is 'ain't about how hard you can hit. It's all about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward'. Well, that's a quote from 'Rocky Balboa' you know? But it fits in here. 'Gallants' is like a pep talk to all of those that are too cowardly to chase their dreams. So ask not why you can't succeed. Ask how many setbacks you could take before you succeed.

It's a short, simple (I mean the story itself) movie with a bunch of funny characters, especially Teddy Robin, humorous and deep. A good Cantonese flick to check out recently.
