Exam - Their Play On Words!

 (2009) ★★☆☆☆

You know it's not at all easy to make a film like that. Since there's only one set, the screenwriter must be good enough to keep us awake throughout the film. The setup is intriguing. The tension is well built though it's a bit exaggerated (who'd wanna risk killing or being killed for just a job? Reality shows like 'The Apprentice' are not reality, are they?). The ending is, however, not thrilling. The movie itself is by no means thought-provoking. It can only be considered a good demonstration to those interested in screenwriting.

What is the question? What is it? That's something those 8 talented candidates have to find out before they can provide the answer and get to fit in the post offered by a mysterious corporation. So the question must be found. The answer to it must be given. That's the only way to win the job. The problem is, where is it? Maybe it's already there. It's just that they can't see it. Maybe there's no question at all. Maybe it's just a psychological game. Or maybe it's an IQ test, not only for them, but also for us audiences.

To understand and be able to enjoy this film, you've got to be detail-minded, and listen carefully to every single word they say, especially in the beginning. But I don't think you'll think of it as a great film like Saw, a true masterpiece in terms of screenplays and plot twists, if you know it leaves you nothing to think about, but a sense of being teased for simply not paying attention to their play on words.
