Moon - What's Happening?

 (2009) ★★☆☆☆

It's not a deep, ambitious, 2001: A Space Odyssey type of film. It's not about the Moon either, cuz it's just there nothing more than a sad, lonely backdrop. The synopsis may lead you to believe that it's a sci-fi thriller, when it's in fact not so 'sci-fi' (no aliens, no humanoids, no men floating in the air, no laser guns, no magnificent spacecrafts, etc), and there's really nothing to scare you off. So what's special about it?

One of Lunar Industries' employees, Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), is doing his 3-year contract alone on the Moon. There're only a few more days to go before he can finally go back home on Earth. He of course feels very lonely since his only contact with the outside world is the video messages between him and his family. For the most of time, he can only talk to the computer Gerty (Kevin Spacey's voice) and himself. What seems to happen next is that his loneliness starts giving him (or us) quite a headache or thrill if you like-Sam sees another Sam after an accident. And the rest of the movie is a two-Sam's show, fighting with each other and questioning each other's existence. But turns out they're all real. Surprised? No? Impossible? Don't judge yet...

Are you scared to see another 'you' in the same space? If you are, you'll love this movie. If you're not, I guess you'll be asking how that'd be possible instead. But what if it's possible? What if you're just one of the many clones of you? What if what you believe is real, is just what someone else wants you to believe so? Could your memories be cheating you? Do you really exist?

There's nothing special about it. What seems so tricky is our mind and humanity indeed.
